My fascination with photography began with a Brownie Starflash and a Polaroid SX-70 in the early 70s. Shooting black and white film in the K1000 for my high school photography class brought that enchantment to a higher level as I learned more about capturing light and perspective.
That journey came with a move to rural Alaska where process by mail was a lengthy endeavor. I shoot images to remember. I shoot images to see things from different perspectives. I challenge myself to create within the camera’s viewer and allow very little to no adjustments post capture.
My photographs tend to be place-based. I experiment with forcing a subject into the image while freezing a scene that tells its own story. I am intrigued by tricky light situations and moments that cannot be recreated. I allow my environment to influence me as I feel most comfortable when I have my camera in hand or nearby.
I enjoy photographs of a journalistic nature and am awed by the snapshot-style prints that carry a story. My digital drawings are transformations of my photographs. I am inspired by and combine to create new images, which become graphics and stickers.
